Being back in the classroom with my students after the longest break I have had since I became a teacher 18 years ago has made me more grateful for this opportunity to teach and inspire than I have ever been. The best single word I can think of to describe the first two weeks (how are we already in week 3??) is magic. I got a lot done spending that much time at home, but you know the saying “Absence makes the heart grow fonder?” That absence made me realize even more how much I love being a teacher. I missed it so much! I missed your kids so much! For the first 2 months after we left school for spring break, it was hard for me to find anything positive about what was happening. But on May 13, the day I found out that I was going to be able to move up to 4th grade with my class, everything changed! It is such a blessing that I get to teach these kids for 2 years (well, I guess 1 3/4 years), and it feels like the new kids in my class have been a part of the group all along. I just look forward so much to each and every day.

One of the things I have loved the most so far is seeing how much these kids have grown over the last 5 months! They’ve grown so much in height, but more importantly, they have grown so much in character! I loved them as 3rd graders, but I think I love them even more as 4th graders! It is so fun to see their personalities come out a little more, and they’re really funny! You all are such great parents and are doing such a great job raising these amazing kids.

I’ve been working on our class website, mreyre.com. I want to make it as useful a resource as I can for you. It’s not finished yet, but take a look at what’s there so far. Upcoming events and a link to our class calendar are right on the front page. The menus at the top lead you to information about our curriculum, spelling lists, math resources, book order information, specials schedule, the supply list, and more.

Please take a few minutes to read through the homework section to familiarize or re-familiarize yourself with the homework procedures in my class. Here is a direct link.

Picture day is on Thursday! This will just be for individual pictures, and students just wear their regular uniforms. Group pictures will be taken later in the school year.

Whenever you have time throughout the year, and especially these first few weeks, I’d love to hear your feedback on how your child is feeling about school. They seem to all love it and enjoy being in the classroom and learning, but sometimes kids will share positive experiences or worries or concerns with parents that they don’t share with their teacher. Hearing about the positive things they share with you always makes my day, and knowing about any worries or concerns they may have helps me to be aware of them and do my best to alleviate them.

Thank you so much for your incredible support! If you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please utilize this open line of communication so that together we can make this year the best school year ever!

Have a great day!
